La Bataille de Preussisch-Eylau, February 7 and 8 1807 - Third Edition

American Fleets

The winter of 1807 began quietly enough with the Russians and French in their respective quarters. Marshal Ney, however, driven by lack of forage, continually expanded his base of operations towards Königsberg where the remnants of the once great Prussian army were ensconced. This threatened Bennigsen's line of communication with Mother Russia, and he had to do something about it. Accordingly he set his army in motion hoping to trap the French marshal against the lower Vistula River.

Napoleon appraised the situation at a glance and roused the rest of his army for a counter maneuver that would sweep from the south and west, in turn threatening Bennigsen with annihilation if he could be driven against the Baltic Sea. Luck had it that on two successive days Napoleon's orders to marshal Bernadotte were intercepted by Cossacks. Fully aware of Napoleon's counter-measures, Bennigsen yanked his army out of the box that was about to be closed on them. They fled westward with Napoleon's corps nipping at their heels. Rearguard actions were fought at Ionkovo, Bergfriede, Heilsberg and at Hoff. On February 7th Bennigsen called a halt. To go any further might see them uncovering Königsberg... a place vital to their alliance with the Prussians.

La Bataille de Preussisch-Eylau is a simulation of Napoleon's epic winter battle fought over two days, February 7th and 8th, 1807. As Napoleon you command the several corps of Marshals Soult, Angereau, Davout, Ney and Murat. As Bennigsen you command almost 70,000 Russians and Prussians. It is bitter cold, the landscape is stark with fields blanketed in snow interspersed with birch woods... and throughout a howling wind is blowing. The resulting slaughter was immense.

La Bataille de Preussisch-Eylau is one of the most definitive studies done on a Napoleonic battle for the gaming public. It is, therefore, designed with the serious gamer in mind.
